Position Description

Private Duty Nurse (RN/LPN) – 1:1 Home Care

Location: Oxford / Lapeer Area

Setting: In-home, one-on-one care

Job Summary

Are you looking for a nursing role that prioritizes meaningful connection over the frantic pace of a hospital floor? We are seeking a dedicated and engaging Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide one-on-one care for a bright and expressive 22-year-old young woman in the heart of Oxford.

This is a unique opportunity to provide specialized clinical care while building a genuine bond with a patient who thrives on interaction and social engagement.

The Opportunity: Flexibility & Balance

We understand that work-life balance is essential. This position offers exceptional flexibility:

  • Shift Times: Typically 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
  • Days: Your choice of days, Monday through Friday.
  • Status: Part-time (shifts are shared with another wonderful nurse on the case).
  • Location: A comfortable, private home setting in Oxford, MI.

Clinical Responsibilities

Our patient is a resilient individual with a complex medical profile requiring a nurse who is confident, observant, and technically skilled. Key responsibilities include:

  • G-Tube Management: Routine feedings and medication administration via G-tube (placed since age 13).
  • Seizure Monitoring: While she has been seizure-free for four years, vigilant monitoring for epilepsy is required.
  • Respiratory Support: Care related to restrictive lung disease; a backup ventilator is kept in-home for safety.
  • Urological Care: Performance of straight catheterization several times daily (this is a core requirement of the role).
  • Positioning: Ensuring comfort and skin integrity related to scoliosis.

The Ideal Candidate

We aren’t just looking for clinical expertise; we are looking for a "people person." Our patient is non-verbal but communicates clearly through eye gaze and subtle head movements (looking up for "yes," a small shake for "no").

You Are a Perfect Fit If You

  • Love to Engage: You enjoy talking, reading, or playing music. She has the cognitive mindset of a 6–7 year old and flourishes when her caregivers interact with her rather than just "working around" her.
  • Are a Patient Communicator: You are willing to take the time to ask yes/no questions and wait for her response, ensuring she remains an active participant in her own life.
  • Are Dependable & Professional: You take pride in being a reliable presence for a family that counts on you.
